If we don’t own an item you want, including books, CDs and DVDs, we can request it for you from another library. Not all items are available through interlibrary loan (ILL); popular new titles, reference works, extremely rare books, and some audio or video materials may be difficult to obtain, but we can usually fulfill your request.
- You may request an interlibrary loan (ILL) from us in person or by telephone, or from your home computer. Please be sure to return all ILL materials requested through JerseyCat to the South Plainfield Public Library, NOT to the library that owns them.
- Please allow up to several weeks for receipt of interlibrary loan (ILL) materials.
- If you request an interlibrary loan but later find that you no longer want the item, please let us know so that we can cancel your request.
- To get materials more quickly, you may also use your South Plainfield Public Library card to borrow items in person from other libraries in the M.U.R.A.L. (Middlesex Union Reciprocal Associated Libraries) system or Open Borrowing program.
- AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT! Items listed as available in an online catalog sometimes cannot be found on the shelf when you visit the library. Please call before you visit any of the MURAL or Open Borrowing libraries to make sure the items you wish to borrow are actually available. If they are, ask the library staff to put them aside for you, and ask whether there are any borrowing restrictions. Also, be sure you have your South Plainfield card with you when you visit any of these libraries.
- If you have any questions, please call us at (908) 754-7885.
JerseyCat

JERSEYCAT is New Jersey’s statewide interlibrary-loan system. If the South Plainfield Public Library doesn’t have what you’re looking for, you can check for it in JERSEYCAT and place an online request to borrow it from another library. We’ll have the item sent to South Plainfield and notify you when it’s available for pickup.
