What is 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten?
1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a nationwide initiative that encourages early literacy, by urging parents and caregivers to read 1000 books to their child before they enter kindergarten. You can learn more on their official website.
How can I sign up?
You can register at the South Plainfield Public Library any time. Stop by the children’s desk and receive a paper booklet to track your reading progress, or download and print the booklet here.
Please note: You must be a South Plainfield resident and have a library card in order to participate in this program.
How does the program work?
Read anything, anywhere with your child. Write the titles down in the paper booklet. If you read a book more than once, you can write it down more than once.
You can check in at the children’s desk once every one hundred books to select a special prize from our treasure box. Once you reach 1,000 books you will be invited to a special celebration with other participants.
